Join the team in its new R&D Center in Shenzhen where you will develop solutions that enable it to deliver on its Brand purpose of “Helping people make space and time for what matters”. It knows that there is more to life than just keeping your belongings in order and your home clean.
Help build the power of the brand in Asia by developing innovative new products for its food and beverage portfolio. As a Senior Industrial Designer you will be a part of cross functional teams that develop best in class products based on insights and a deep understanding of its consumer. You will study global markets, consumer behavior, competitive products, and channels of distribution. Follow your programs through all phases of development from concept to production with its continually growing supplier base.
The role requires an individual who can work independently as well as directly with its US based Design Team. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with Marketing and Consumer Insights counterparts from both its US and Hong Kong offices in order to develop design criteria, research requirements and concept validation materials. You will forge strong relationships with Engineering to foster concept development, mechanical solutions, validation of product specs, and prototypes. You will also develop relationships externally with suppliers, consultants and manufacturers. As an extension of its eight-person design team in the U.S. you will have opportunities to help us explore its U.S.-focused categories of Outdoor Living, Home Organization, Closet, Garage, Indoor Waste, Outdoor Refuse, Laundry, Kitchen, Cleaning and Insulated.
Activities:
• Analyze trends and market opportunities, report findings to new product development teams.
• Develop consumer insights through participation of qualitative research including home visits, ethnographies and focus groups.
• Concept development
• Develop patent-able features and products. Drive competitive advantage.
• Performance and functional improvements. Human factors considerations and ergonomic solutions.
• Design for manufacture and sustainability
• Form generation based on Consumer Product Design Guidelines.
• Idea champion: Innovate and push forward new concepts, end user solutions and product platforms.
• Presentation Materials
• Creation of top quality sketches, drawings, vector artwork, raster images, CAD Models and renderings..
• Development of study models, breadboards and proof of principle models
• Public speaking and presentations
Design Leadership:
• Work environment: Support the development of a creative and innovative culture
• Design advocate: Develop processes and professional presence to present design as a high value, strategic and professional function.
• Business acumen: Understand its business and what impacts it from social, economic and environmental perspectives.
• Focus on department safety with an emphasis on prototyping activity within shop, lab and studio facilities.
• Collaboration with its client sister brands.
Qualifications:
• Minimum five-years’ experience in new product development
• Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
• Highly developed conceptual, creative and analytical skills
• Mechanically inclined with strong aesthetic sensitivity
• Excellent 2D and 3D hand skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Well versed in end-user research techniques
• In depth understanding of Interface Design, Ergonomics and Human Factors
• Strong technical knowledge including materials and manufacturing processes
• Excellent time/project management skills
• Ability to work independently and lead team members toward project goals and timelines
• Ability to occasionally travel and work internationally.
• Ability to follow a structured product development process
• Ability to work within an established Brand Identity and Design Language.
• Strong 3D-CAD Skills
• Preferred software: Adobe CS, Pro-E, Bunkspeed Shot.
